Shooting Stars Improve to 5-1 in Front of Star-Studded Crowd at Home Opener

The Scarborough Shooting Stars opened their home schedule in style.

In front of a packed and star-studded crowd that included actor Mel Gibson, actor Shamier Anderson, and former Olympic sprinter Ben Johnson, the Shooting Stars defeated the Calgary Surge 96-80 on Friday night at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre, improving to 5-1 on the season.

Scarborough set the tone early, jumping out to a 27-17 first-quarter lead and never looking back. The Shooting Stars controlled the glass all night, outrebounding Calgary 52-44 while moving the ball effectively with 26 assists on 35 made field goals.

Myles Powell led all scorers with 29 points, continuing his strong start to the season. Frank Mitchell delivered another stellar all-around performance with 18 points, 14 rebounds, and 7 assists, while Trey Thomas added 14 points and Javan Johnson chipped in 12.

Defensively, Scarborough made life difficult for Calgary, holding the Surge to just 21% shooting from three-point range before pulling away in the fourth quarter to secure the 16-point victory.

The win gave Scarborough a successful home opener and further cemented its place among the CEBL's early contenders with a 5-1 record. With a deep roster, strong chemistry, and contributions throughout the lineup, the Shooting Stars continue to build momentum as the season progresses.

The stars were out both on the court and in the stands—and Scarborough delivered a performance worthy of the spotlight.
