Myles Powell simply would not be denied.
In front of a roaring, sold-out crowd at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre, Powell completed a dramatic fourth-quarter comeback, drilling a clutch three-pointer to seal a thrilling two-point victory for the Scarborough Shooting Stars over the Winnipeg Sea Bears.
Down by double digits in the final frame of a true rollercoaster matchup, the Shooting Stars rallied on the back of Powell’s dominant offensive showcase. The star guard exploded for a game-high 41 points, willing his team back into the game, while adding six assists and four rebounds for good measure.
While Powell played the hero on the perimeter, Frank Mitchell controlled the paint. He bullied his way to a monster double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds, while Akoi Yuot provided a crucial spark with 15 points and nine boards. Together, Scarborough generated 46 points in the paint and 20 assists, giving them just enough firepower to survive the shootout.
The Sea Bears, who shot a blistering 44 percent from beyond the arc, were paced by Teddy Allen's 33-point, eight-rebound effort. Emmanuel Akot chipped in 12 points, while Davion Warren and Trey McGowens each added double digits. Winnipeg fought back repeatedly throughout the second half to keep the game within a single possession in the closing moments, but Scarborough answered with key defensive stops and Powell’s timely dagger to secure the win.
The Scarborough Shooting Stars look to extend their win streak to 3 this Thursday as they take on the Saskatoon Mamba in Scarborough.
