Miracle on Morningside? Shooting Stars Complete Historic Comeback to Stay Unbeaten
Share
Greatest comeback in CEBL history? It’s hard to argue that.
Trailing late and seemingly out of answers, the Scarborough Shooting Stars closed the game on a stunning 19-0 run to shock the Saskatoon Mamba, 107-103 in front of yet another sold-out crowd. Aamir Simms delivered the final dagger, burying a game-winning three-pointer to cap off one of the most improbable finishes the league has ever seen.
Once again, Myles Powell rose to the moment when Scarborough needed him most. Myles poured in a game-high 27 points in a fast-paced, back-and-forth battle, attacking from all areas of the floor. It's been a hot start for Powell who is currently averaging 30.3 PPG.
Scarborough’s balanced effort proved to be the difference. Simms dominated the glass with a monster 19-point, 13-rebound double-double, while Javan Johnson delivered one of his strongest all-around performances of the season with 17 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Frank Mitchell anchored the interior with 12 rebounds as the Shooting Stars controlled the boards 59-44 and piled up 52 points in the paint.
The Shooting Stars shot 44% from the field and converted 21 free throws, but their relentless rim pressure and defensive intensity changed the game late. Scarborough turned key stops into transition opportunities, finishing with 23 fast-break points in a contest filled with momentum swings throughout the second half.
With the victory, the Scarborough Shooting Stars improve to 3-0, tied atop the league standings with the Brampton Honey Badgers. The Shooting Stars will look to keep their unbeaten streak alive when they face the winless Calgary Surge on May 28.
